first post for Love Hertz
I was trying to think of a good name to express what this specialized blog was to be about. It was inspired by my buddy Lash Rambo (Hi Lash!) when he directed me to a transcript of a speech given in 2000 by Courtney Love, about how the big record industry steals the soul -- not to mention the cash -- of musicians.

The reason for Love Hertz is to call attention to very talented musicians that either don't have a record label, don't want a record label, or have a record label but you don't see them getting a lot of radio air time or promotion.
My older son is a great one for calling my attention to new music. Others have directed me to groups I never heard of but listen to and say hey wow. Sometimes I just stumble across them here and there. For instance, in February I saw the fabulous independent film, "Plagues and Pleasures on the Salton Sea", with music by the group Friends of Dean Martinez. Great music. I'll be googling them soon and posting an entry on them.
If you have music you want me to put an ear to, let me know. If you want to write a review of a particular band and have me post it for you here, goforit.
I see it happening already.... folks networking on the net and getting the word out about great musicians who would never be known if it wasn't for the networking. Like Courtney said, big labels are glorified distributors who suck in all dollas for the privilege of promoting art. Those days be changin, using a Bob Dylan paraphrase.
